  1. Someone Named Eva Response #3 (6-10)

    June 8, 2021 by abbevangelista21

In the book Someone Named Eva,  on page 140, Eva says “I felt content and full for the first time in a very long time.” I think she said that because she hasn’t had a family that cared for her in a very long time. I don’t think Eva should be feeling that way yet and here are a few reasons from the text on why I think that. First of all Eva’s “vater” is A commandant of a prison camp and everyone is a proud hitler follower.  Because of that reason, if I was Eva, I wouldn’t trust any of them incase they force me to become a proud Nazi citizen. Then I would have to let go my new family that I trusted. My second reason is that Since Eva now lives like a German citizen, Eva is starting to forget herself even more than before. She already forgot the names she called her loved ones and I don’t want her to forget anything else. Lastly Elsbeth says that vater’s favorite child is Peter and he treats Peter like a king and everyone else are just the slaves. I want to make sure that if Eva goes to vater for help she will get the help she asked for, and the vater will not say he’s busy or doesn’t care. I want to make sure all the children are getting treated equally. In conclusion, I want Eva to be happy with her new family but at first I want her to take precautions, be ready for anything to happen, and make sure her new family is treating her the right way.

  2. Someone Named Eva Open Response #3

In ‘Someone Named Eva’ a girl was forced out of her family to become German. She needed to go to a German citizen camp for 2 years! After World War 2 though, she left that camp and got adopted by the Werner family. Now she has one older sister, Elsbeth and a younger brother, Peter.  Although on page 140 she said, ‘I felt content and full for the first time in a very long time.’ I feel by this statement she is feeling welcome, and happy, nothing really to worry about. I say this because in the book it tells how happy Eva is, her mutter sewed her a brand new dress, that exactly matches the tone of her eyes! She also says this because they through a huge adoption celebration just for Eva! Everyone has Eva’s favorite flavor cake and the whole day revolves around Eva! It makes her happy to the point where she nearly has nothing to worry about! Although I do think she should feel this way, at least at this moment, it’s a party! And the whole family is nice and safe. Her Vater is making good money, they live in a huge house, and well she is out of the camp! I am willing to figure out if this will stay the same throughout the rest of the book! But I wonder if ‘the tables will turn…’.

  3. Someone Named Eva Chapters 6-10

On page 140 Eva thought, I felt content and full for the first time in a very long time. There were many reasons for her thinking this. I think she said that because she had a family for the first time in a very long time and that made her feel really happy. For example when she was at the training camp she was only with girls and was isolated from the rest of the world and other adults and that made it not feel like a family. Another reason why I think she is excited to have this new family is because she has a new sister called Elsbeth. This relationship between two sisters can be very helpful later in life because you have a friend you can always count on. The last example that Eva is content is when the Nazis present her adopted mom what’s the cross that honors mothers with three or more children. This makes Eva feel important because she made her new Mutter’s life different in a good way by being the third child in the family. I believe that Eva should feel happy under these new circumstances because she is feeling happy about the way her new family turned out and she is no longer feeling discouraged. Eva is now feeling content because she has a family that loves her and they are making her feeling less frightened about the Nazis. These are the reasons why I think Eva is happy in her new home.

Franziska is starting to forget who she is, who she was. When another girl in the camp/school has a differently shaped nose, Franziska yells at her and demands a nose check. When  Fraulein Kruger says her nose is in check (haha) that is enough for Franziska to be friends with the girl again, the only reason Franziska (not Ruzha) would do this is because she is losing her grip on Ruzha, and starting to become more German, and losing the Czech part of herself. Franziska is a fast leaner, and grasps German quickly,  I feel (Not necessarily) the only part of her she is not losing is being rude, like the nose example. She also is a teachers pet, and is often praised by the teacher. Another example is she does not care for anyone left behind in Czechoslovakia (That took forever to spell right)  She has learned to hate Jews, and that the only good/respectable race is Aryan.

  5. Some one named Eva Chapters 3-5

In the book chapters 3-5 for Someone Named Eva. Eva, Franziska and Liesel are forgetting who they are. I think this is happening because Eva, Franziska and Liesel are being taught different cultures and that culture is trying to take over the world and making them forget their own culture. For example when Eva forgets who she is in the chapters 4. One example is when at night she is trying to say her name but she forgot it and can not remember it until she looked up at the stars. Another change a character had was when Franziska turns into a german girl by accepting what the germans are telling her and how she disrespects everybody. Like when Hedi is taken away after she talks in her own language Franziska says “I knew something would have to be done”. The last example is when Liesel has a change when she starts believing what the germans are saying about the air raid on her town. One way we know is when Eva/Milada says she heard Leisel asking the guard were her family was and they kept saying they were killed in an air raid. I think that these are some of the reasons that Eva, Liesel and Franziska all have personality changes.

    Chapters 1-5

Milada (Or Eva) is a hopeful person, and she is smart, too. She also is grateful for what she gets, an example of this is her birthday. She doesn’t complain when she doesn’t get a ‘real’ birthday cake, or when she only get two presents. An example of her being smart is when she doesn’t argue with the Nazis, she did struggle a little bit, but she keeps her head down. She also remembers what her grandmother (Babichka) tells her, “Remember who you are, Milada.”. As an example of her being hopeful is throughout the whole story, she is hopeful she can survive the Nazis, she is hopeful to get back home some day, by following the north star, she is hopeful she will make it out to see Terenzie, and by her birthday, too.

Here are the three adjectives that describe Milada. One adjective is Milada is very mentally strong about what the Nazi soldiers are doing to her and the other people in her community. One example is when Milada is taken into the gym and is forced to get undressed with the other boys and girls. The other boys and girls are scared  but Milada does not really show any emotion to that even though she is probably scared. Milada is also very determined. For example  Milada is determined not give up her telescope when the Nazis take it away from her. Lastly, she is also very curious. When she is taken onto the bus the Nazis said that all the kids from the village would be there but only one other person is their with her and she is curious were the other kids are going. These are the three examples that describe part of Milada personality.

  8. Someone Named Eva Open Response #2

In the book ‘Someone Named Eva’ the girls on the bus were given new German names. Milada is now Eva, Ruzah is now named Fransiska and Katarzyna is now named Liesel.  I feel like it is easy to forget if you get a new name, speak a new language and your family has possibly been killed in an aircraft. Eva is trying to practice her name every night (Milada,Milada,Milada. She recites.) Although I think that Fransiska is sorta enjoying the way that she is now someone else, a new identity. My reason is that in her old school with Eva, she was always the ‘mean girl’ and I think she wants to turn over a new leaf and start fresh! Although she is still scared because, rumor has it, her family might have been killed as well. Leisel is trying to remember and remind herself  ‘she is Catholic and Germany can’t stop her from being that!’ Liesel is tired of Hitler trying to take over Europe and she just wants to go home and have everything the same. It is hard for these young girls and I really admire all of the girls’ bravery!

  9. Someone Named Eva Response #2 (Madi)

In the chapters 3-5 in Someone Named Eva. The girls are given new German names and German schooling and slowly begin to forget their true personalities, but how did they forget? Here are 3 reasons from the text on why they forget their personalities . My first reason is that since they are being treated bad there personalities get turned around. For example, Franziska was a shy mean girl before they were brought to the camp and after she was brought to the camp she became more rude and more confident. My second reason is they are being forced to learn German and learn a new lifestyle, and if they don’t  speak German right or they disobey an order they get punished. For example, in the story Heidi spoke poland instead of German in class and was beaten because of it.  My last reason is since they are learning about how Germans don’t like Jewish people, some of the girls are now against Jewish people. For example, Franziska learned from the Nazis to not like Jewish people and to spread hate against them. Clearly They are forgetting their personalities because of how they are teaching the girls and how they are changing the girls lifestyles.

Three describing words I would give to describe Milada would be, number one, curious, number two stubborn, and number three, friendly. Milada is curious because she doesn’t know much about the Nazis and why they are in her home. She wants to know what the Nazis were doing and why they were arresting the town, the town wasn’t Jewish. She is stubborn when something is unfair because she doesn’t want the Nazis to destroy her band new telescope. Her parents spent a lot of money on it and she doesn’t think it is okay to ruin something that is special.  And she is friendly. She is friendly to Ruzah even though she very rude and mean to Milada and to her friends. Milada goes out of her way to try to put a smile on not just Ruzah’s face.  Those are the three adjectives I would use to describe Milada from the book ‘Someone Named Eva’.
